Below is one of my earliest research work on Christmas. I struggled with the 188-word introduction (from “The Twelve Days of Christmas” to “Epiphany:”)
I’ve been working on this for a staggering 3 days and 3 sleepless nights. Finally with a research technique Prof. Ronald Hilton showed me, I finished the introduction. whew!!! Lesson learned.

Perhaps as an addendum to Mike Bonnie’s post on “The Story of Stuff” (16 October), it is the unreasonably long hours of daily work including the commute that should get a big part of the blame. And in some businesses, taking a vacation could mean putting the security of your job at risk.
JE commented on Mike Bonnie’s post:
I just watched the “Story of Stuff,” and it’s very gripping–especially when Annie points out the cycle of fatigue that reigns in modern-day life: we work many hours to pay for our stuff, and return home so tired that we watch TV, which reminds us of all the stuff we need to buy.
Bienvenido Macario comments:
TS Elliot once said that the television enables millions of people to laugh at the same joke at the same time and still be alone in your living room.
Today we have better stations with better programming like History Channel, TLC, A & E, National Geographic. For business CNBC is good. Programs from these stations are worth recording.
This brings us to a scary Halloween time “story”:
Not until I saw last Wednesday (10-15) a part of a History Channel Episode, “Lost Book of Nostradamus,” did I discover how fascinated people are with the 16th-century seer. A number of books have been written and films made about Nostradamus and his prophecies.
According to this “Lost Book of Nostradamus” episode, Nostradamus prophesied Dec. 21, 2012 as the end of the world, which is exactly what scholars believe the pre-Columbian Mayan Calendar indicated, according to another History Channel feature: “Mayan Doomsday Prophecy,” to be aired again on Thursday 10-23-08.
Dec. 21, 2012 is only four year away, right? Now Jesus Christ was supposed to have been born on Zero BC/AD. But a glitch somewhere was discovered and His commonly accepted date of birth is 4 BC or four years early.
What if the scholars and archaeologist missed out a caveat in translating the Mayan Calendar, and forgot to transcribe the words “give or take four years”? This would mean that the end of the world could come as early as Dec. 21, 2008 or as late as Dec. 21, 2016!
Are you scared?
Am I scared? No comment. I am not ready to give my opinion on the Mayan calendar and the 12-21-2012 Doomsday Prophecy or Nostradamus. There is still hope before then for my people in the Philippines to ensure a better future.
What good is it for my people and I that the world did not end but we remain slaves in our own ancestral land as the trashing and degradation of our environment continues?
JE comments: I’ve become rather addicted to the History Channel since I moved to my new digs in Royal Oak, where we now have some really neat stuff, including a behemoth flat-screen TV with satellite service. It is remarkable to note the popularity of doomsday programs–Nostradamus, the Mayan Eschatologies, and even I Ching appear to predict our planet’s demise at the end of 2012. This is all unsettling, and worth more than the simple dismissal that the positivists among us might offer in response. Could it be that we’ll see only one more US presidential election cycle before the game’s over?

Feb. 15, 2013: Russia: What about the bus-size meteor that exploded over Russia’s Ural Mountains on Feb. 15, 2013? Was it also shot down by a UFO to prevent the start of the end of the world (est. 12/21/2013) Or was it just another hoax? Too many similar incidents to be hoaxes?

Nov. 8, 2013 – Central Philippines was devastated by the most powerful typhoon ever recorded – Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). There was no preparation, relief, rescue and recovery despite the $4 billion World Bank loans given to the Aquino government.
Dec. 31, 2013 – UFO sighted in the skies over Los Angeles & later in Northern California. Was this New Year’s eve visit a warning to start over? Was it a formal social introduction or visit? lol.

Dec. 21, 2015 & Dec. 21, 2016: “Do you ALL feel lucky?” Go ahead ignore the Philippines and continue to recognize the false flag presidency of Pres. Benigno Aquino III a 3rd generation oligarch-traitor. Go ahead keep Ignoring my people and our environment.
Like the GOP in the last presidential election, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao didn’t see the perfect counter punch coming.Just as Pacquiao was about to clinch another round, Marquez floored him with a right hand.
“I got hit by a punch I didn’t see.” Pacquiao admits.
Ok so much for the technical stuff. It was a great fight. Both boxers went down meaning they are as close equals at could be. “Luck” or “karma” maybe a factor. Psychological and spiritual preparation might prove decisive.
“Every battle is won or lost before it is ever fought.” Sun Tzu Art of War (722-481BC)
I say again from Sun Tzu: “Every battle is won or lost before it is ever fought.”
While Congressman Manny Pacquiao and his friends in House of Rep. were preparing for the fight, more than 500 bodies were being recovered from the ANNUAL typhoon-induced mudslide, in Pacquao’s own Mindanao Island. But the Philippine Congress was busy with the fight so they could not be bothered. (See Photo)
On Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 LA Times reported: “More than 500 people are reported dead and hundreds more remain missing after Typhoon Bopha slammed into the archipelago this week. The storm weakened after it struck the south, but has rebounded as it veers northward, now as strong as a Category 4 hurricane.”
How the heck do you think LUCK will allow this Filipino congressman-boxer to win?
Now if Pacquiao is NOT a member of the Philippine Congress, which is not exactly the most honorable and respected congress in the world, a pious man, he could pray to God for victory that he might help his fellow Mindanaoans, do you think God will answer his prayers?
Ironically Mitt Romney who didn’t see Obama’s victory coming, gave Manny Pacquiao a pep talk before the fight.
My unsolicited advice to Manny Pacquiao is to consider leaving Philippine politics. You have already given Filipinos so much honor and pride a 10 million Filipino men and women could not give in their entire lifetimes. Focus on your boxing career, you do not belong in Philippine politics. There are other ways you can help the Philippines. Being a congressman or in politics is not one of them.
